| background: Belpoggio is a distinguished 10-hectare estate nestled in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Montalcino, just 500 meters from the revered Abbey of Sant'Antimo. With 5 hectares dedicated to Sangiovese vines and the remainder to olive groves, the property offers breathtaking views of the Val d'Orcia and Monte Amiata. The estate harmoniously blends a beautifully restored historic farmhouse with a newly built, state-of-the-art winery, specifically equipped with modern technology focusing on the aging process. The vineyards are uniquely positioned facing southwest at an elevation of 350-400 meters, ensuring ideal conditions for exceptional wine production and eco-sustainable agricultural practices on their calcareous soils with abundant "scheletro" (rocky fragments).
The 2019 Belpoggio Brunello di Montalcino is crafted entirely from 100% Sangiovese Grosso, the clone specific to Montalcino, from vines benefiting from the estate's prime location. Vinification is traditional, involving a 15-20 day maceration at controlled temperatures to extract color, structure, and fragrance. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes a significant aging period of 36 months (3 years) in 30hl Slavonian oak casks. This extended wood aging is crucial for developing the wine's complexity and softening its tannins. Subsequently, it undergoes further bottle aging for 6-9 months before release, ensuring it is ready for consumption. This meticulous process adheres strictly to Brunello di Montalcino DOCG regulations, which require a minimum of two years in oak and four months in bottle, with the wine released on January 1st of the fifth year following harvest. | |
