94 Points from Wine Enthusiast Saying:
"An inviting, warm nose is headlined by aromas of earth, spices and dense fruit, with a latent salty, leathery element emerging. The palate is more uniformly fruit-forward, but a dusting of salt and pepper and a blast of spice preserve an overall feeling of nuance. Refined tannins keep vibrant acid in check."

background:
Piccini is one of the most established names in Italian winemaking, with a family history that spans over 140 years and five generations. Founded in 1882 by Angiolo Piccini, the winery's enduring philosophy is a powerful blend of tradition and a courageous commitment to innovation. This wine hails from Montalcino, a region widely regarded as the epicenter of the Italian wine world. The vineyards are located at an altitude of almost 1,150 feet, with limestone-based soils and a balanced content of clay and schist. This unique terroir, benefiting from sea breezes carried in from the Maremma, provides ideal conditions for growing the noble Sangiovese Grosso.

The 2018 vintage for this Brunello was a classic year, marked by ideal weather conditions and a slow, constant maturation of the grapes. The harvest, done by hand, took place in October, when the grapes had reached perfect ripeness. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for 10-12 days, a process that preserves the wine's natural freshness and fruit. The true charm of this complex wine, however, comes from the aging period, during which the wine matures and slowly absorbs aromas and fragrances from the wood of the barrels. The wine remains in oak for at least 2 years, a requirement for the DOCG, and rests another 6 months in bottles before its release to the market, which happens no less than five years after the harvest.

The 2018 Piccini Brunello di Montalcino is immediately recognizable by its complex red color, tending towards garnet. Its bouquet is punctuated by delicious notes of licorice and cherry, while the palate offers an elegant and structured experience. This is a wine with a full, velvety flavor, with a soft tannic texture and a long, persistent finish. Its harmonious body and refined character are a testament to the winery's commitment to producing authentic and timeless wines.
